Why upgrade software?
Rednose constantly releases new versions of its software. We often get the question from customers whether it is always necessary to carry out an upgrade immediately.
An update is primarily needed to allow end users to work with the latest version of the software. That way you have the latest functionalities. In addition, an upgrade is sometimes necessary to maintain support and maintenance from the supplier. If your software is heavily outdated, it will no longer be supported or updated at some point. There is a risk that you will then be working with software that may contain errors or vulnerabilities. A short answer is: always try to work with the latest version of the software and upgrade as soon as possible if you can.
Three different updates can be distinguished: a functionality update, a security update and a mix of these two. A functionality update makes the software better, whether it is functionally expanded or simply more beautiful. Functionality updates are almost never urgent.
A security update (security patch) on the other hand is often urgent. The word says it all, it affects the security of the software by repairing (patching) one or more discovered vulnerabilities. We recommend that you never delay installing a security update.

DocGen 5 is a new major release and therefore a mix of a functionality update and a security update. The release notes of the software inform you what is achieved with a new version. In the case of our software, Rednose is always available to advise and support you with update issues. So if you want to schedule your upgrade, please contact us!
